Action Days 2024: Advocating for Childhood Cancer Initiatives

Updated: Jul 24

On Feb 14th, I was volunteering for ACSCAN at ActionDays2024 in Washington DC, representing the golden state of California - advocating for childhood cancer initiatives and urging Congress to:

- Fully support Childhood Cancer Survivorship, Treatment, Access and Research (STAR) Act

- Fully fund Childhood Cancer Data Initiative (CCDI)

- Provide significant increases NIH and NCI Funding

- Cosponsor The Accelerating Kids' Access to Care Act (H.R. 4758/S. 2372)

- Cosponsor The Pediatric Cancer Drug Supply Act (H.R. 6963)

Although we couldn't meet any of the Senators or representatives in person, their staffers were great and spent quality time listening to our asks, and get it across to their bosses. I was there to tell my son, Mithil's story and emphasize the importance of fully funding programs like CCDI and increasing funding for NIH and NCI.

Thanks to AllianceforChildhoodCancer for leading this effort.

Met wonderful fellow advocates from all over the country and I especially applaud the advocacy efforts of those who are not directly affected by childhood cancer but are empathetic enough to join hands with us to help move the needle, thank you.
